Scott, George Henry Hall, 7th (Service) Battn. The Queen's (Royal West Surrey Regt.), son of the late Sir Henry Hall Scott, of Eilanreach, co. Inverness, and Hipsturn, co. Northumberland, D. L., J. P., by his wife, Henrietta (Down Place, Guildford), daughter of George Gaukroger, of Southfield, co. Heddington, J. P.; born Alnham House, Whittingham, co. Northumberland, 18 June, 1882; educated Aysgarth and Charterhouse; was a Consulting Mining Engineer, and Director of Bolsover and Blackwell Collieries, co. Derby, and Newbiggin Colliery, co. Northumberland; volunteered for foreign service on the outbreak of war, and was gazetted Lieutenant. The Royal West Surrey Regt. September 1914, and Captain 1915; served with the Exxpeditionary Force in France from July, 1915, and was killed in action at the First Battle of the Somme 01 July, 1916, where the 7th Battn. The West Surrey Regt. gained and held their objective, Montauban. Burried at Carnoy. Captain Scott was as a keen sportsman, and spent much of his time in salmon fishing and deer-stalking when at his Highland residence, Eilanreach, co. Inverness; unm.
