Vis-en-Artois Memorial, France
The North Tyne Magazine reported the death of Serjeant Charlton in November 1918:

John Anthony Charlton has been killed in action in France. He was every inch a soldier, and had attained the rank of sergeant. He had been a Territorial before hostilities commenced, and on the outbreak of the war mobilised with the Northumberland Fusiliers. In 1916, he was transferred to the Sherwood Foresters. He spent several months in Ireland during the riots there, but went out to France in 1917, and was wounded in May of that year being invalided home for convalescence. He went to the front again in March of this year, and has seen a good deal of fighting. He was noted as a keen and successful shot, and had been selected to give instructions in musketry.

Bonnay Communal Cemetery, France
Son of Ralph and Adamenia H. Hutchinson,
of Birtley Shields, Wark, Northumberland, England.

The death of Private Hutchinson was reported by the North Tyne Magazine in June 1918:

John Hutchinson, of Birtley Shields, was killed in action in France on the 24th of April 1918 by the bursting of a shell. He left home six years ago (in 1912) for the purpose of farming in Australia, spending most of this time in Adelaide and Queensland. He gave great promise as a successful farmer, being naturally endowed with distinct ability, together with a good judgement and an exceptional capacity for business. He volunteered for military service in November, 1916, joining the Australian Imperial Force. Coming to England to complete his training, he left for France in June, and since that time he has seen a good deal of fighting. He took part in the big offensive which was lead by the Australians last October andf again in March this year. He has died as a brave soldier, giving his life for the defence of the homeland in the noblest cause of honour, freedom and rightousness.
