The "Overy Parish Magazine" reported following:
THE WAR
We are sorry to report that 1st Class Stoker, Jack Loose, of Overy Staithe, was unfortunately killed on September 3rd, in air raid in England. He had a promissing career before him, and would have soon been called to fulfil important and perilous duty for his Country.   Our sincere sympathy is recorded for his mother and sisters, and other relatives, including his wife.   They will always have the consolation, and a lasting sense of pride in the thought, that not only did hw lay down his life for his Country, but also he was a brave and experienced sailor.   A Memorial Service was held in St. Clement's Church on Sunday, September 16th, at 3.30 p.m., the solemnity and peacefulness of which, we trust conveyed a message of comfort and nope to those parents.

Obituary John Robert Loose In loving memory of
John Robert Loose,
who was killed in an air raid,
September 3rd, 1917,
aged 26 years.

Interred in Gillingham Cemetery.
