An old boy of Whitehaven Secondary School, Pilot Officer George Mattinson, of Egremont, has been drowned while bathing in the River Nidd, Yorkshire. He played both cricket and rugby for Egremont, and before the war was employed in the offices of the Workington Iron and Steel Co. He was married less than a year ago.
