Published in "The Stratford Herald" on 18 February 1916
Memorial Service - A service was held in the church last Sunday afternoon in memory of Private James Albert Birch, who died from climatic exposure in the East. He was a native of Ettington, and had enlisted whilst working at the lime-works. The sad news of his death was not communicated to his relatives until several weeks had elapsed.
Suitable hymns were sung, and the Vicar, in an address, alluded to the great sufferings which the men had endured in the terrible blizzard which had raged in Gallipoli at the end of November, in which the deceased had lost his life.
Many of his friends attended the service, and at the close the Dead March was played.
