The "Lynn Advertiser" reports about the bomb raid in October 1940:
. . . At 6.20 p. m. on Oct. 29, 1940, three enemy planes passed over Fincham, but only one dropped bombs, when guns from a searchlight station opened up. Twenty-one h. e. bombs were dropped, one scoring a direct hit on the men's recreation-room, killing the caretaker (Mr. Alfred Bacon), who was preparing the room for an entertainment.
The rectory nearby was damaged, and many windows in the village were broken. The rectory still wears scars of the raid, and a crater was made in the adjoining land.
The Wardens were quickly on the scene and were complimented on their cool and prompt behaviour. First-aid personnel also attended. . .

The birth (09 October 1881) of Alfred E. Bacon was registered in Docking, Norfolk, England during the fourth quarter of 1881. His death was registered in Downham, Norfolk, England during the fourth quarter of 1940. He resided at High Street in Downham, Norfolk, England in 1939. He was unmarried.

Remark: Also see above the Bacon brothers of WW I.
