P., Lord of the Manor of Holy Island; born Beal, co. Northumberland, 06 September 1894; educated Lyndhurst; Wellington College, and the Royal Military College, Sandhurst; was gazetted 2nd Lieutenant King's Royal Rifle Corps 25 February 1914; served with the Expeditionary Force in France and Flanders, and was killed in action at Veldhock 02 November 1914.

husband of Rachel Markwell, nee Kyle,
of West End, Holy Island, Northumberland.

H. M. T. "Holdene" was a British fishing trawler built in 1915 by Smith’s Dock Co., Middlesbrough and operated at the time of her loss by Royal Navy. On February 2nd, 1917, Holdene was sunk by a mine from the German submarine UC-11 east from the Shipwash light vessel. 7 persons were lost.
