The birth of Albert Bee was registered in Grantham, Lincolnshire, England during the third quarter of 1897.

The Grantham Journal on 05 January 1918:
It is with great regret that we record the death of Private Albert Bee, only son of Mr. William Bee, of Ropsley. Deceased was a promising youth and was greatly esteemed by all who knew him. He had many young friends in the village, who, together with his relatives, deeply deplore his loss. The news was conveyed to his father by a letter from the Chaplain, who stated that Pte. Bee was killed instantly, on November 22nd, while carrying ammunition to his Company at the back of the lines. The deceased was 20 years of age and had been in the Army about 10 months. Much sympathy is felt for the relatives in their sad bereavement.

Rhubarb:
This new offensive saw fighter squadrons embarking on a variety of routine operations, each given a codename. The simplest was known as a 'Rhubarb', in which small numbers of aircraft - usually just a pair - flew at low-level into France or Belgium to shoot up targets of opportunity on the ground. Rhubarbs were normally flown in bad weather so as to avoid enemy fighters, but this alone made them hazardous. Anti-aircraft fire was another danger and the losses suffered far outweighed the damage caused to the enemy.

George Cross

The London Gazette, edited 19 October 1945:
"The King has been graciously pleased to approve the posthumous award of the George Cross, in recognition of most conspicuous gallantry in carrying out hazardous work in a very brave manner to No. 2328696 Signalman Kenneth Smith, Royal Corps of Signals."

The Times at the following day:
On the night of 10th January 1945, on the island of Ist in the Adriatic, Signalman Smith was a member of a patrol of the Long Range Desert Group which was attacked by saboteurs, who laid time bombs in vital houses on the island. After hearing some shots, Signalman Smith entered the wireless room and found one such bomb on the table. Realizing that there were a number of partisans in the room and young children elsewhere in the house, Signalman Smith immediately picked up the bomb, which was ticking. He intended to move it to a place of safety behind a wall nearby, but he had gone only a few yards outside the house when the bomb exploded and he was blown to pieces. There is no doubt that Signalman Smith's actions saved the lives of many of his comrades, partisans, and civilians, and that he showed superb courage and a complete disregard for personal safety inlifting a time bomb which was already ticking, when he knew it might explode at any moment.
