Samuel Augustus Duncan was born in Meriden, Sullivan County, New Hampshire, USA on 19 June 1936. His parents were Samuel Bell Duncan and Ruth Knowles Duncan. He died in Englewood, Bergen County, New Jersey, USA on 18 October 1895. He was married to Julia Jones in Washington, New Hampshire, USA on 25 December 1867. He was a Colonel of the 4th Infantry (Union) during the Civil War 1861 - 1865. He was seriously wounded and was withdrawn from service on 15 September 1863.
