Lived in Delhi Over 75 Years

Reporter:
Death claimed one of Delhi's oldest and most esteemed citizens on Sunday, October 9th, when Mrs. John Messecar passed away at the advanced age of 82 years.
The deceased lady was born near Norwich, and when a little girl moved with her parents to Delhi, where she has resided all her life. Her father carried on a blacksmith business on the corner of Church St. and the Townline; his building stood on the same site as the old Forbes' Hotel; she attended school in a small building on the opposite corner, which stood where the old Orange Hall formerly did. This building not only served as school, but also as a town church. At this time these were the principal buildings of Delhi.

The funeral took place Wednesday afternoon, when the remains were interred in the Delhi cemetery. Services were held in the Baptist church.

The deceased leaves a family of ten, who are as follows:
Mrs. A. Robinson, Marlett, Michigan
Mrs. J. Beckett, Delhi
Mrs. T. Tombs, Simcoe
W. Messecar, Kingsville
C. Messecar, Delhi
Mrs. F. Warning, Delhi
John Messecar, Detroit
Mrs. Ross Dynes, Detroit
James Messecar, Marlett, Michigan
Bert Messecar, Kingsville.
