Apprenticeship (Age 15¼): 5 years, 1909-14; apprentice to J. Dickinson & Sons, Palmer's Hill Engine Works, Sunderland.
Further Training: When the war is over, it is my intention to enter the Machine Tool Trade, and, with this end in view, I am making it a special study.
Subsequent Career: In September 1914, just before completing my apprenticeship, I enlisted in the Durham L. I., and, after seeing service in Egypt and France, I was recalled by my employers in July 1916, and, consequently, have since been employed on marine work at their Palmer's Hill Engine Works.
