Sylvia Beatrice McDowall was born in Eton, Buckinghamshire, England on 16 February 1907. Her parents were Reverend Charles Robert Loraine McDowall and Beatrice Mary McDowall, nee Burdett. Her marriage to Sir John Saye Wingfield Twistleton-Wykham-Fiennes was registered in East Ashford, Kent, England during the third quarter of 1937. She resided with her husband in Sheering, Epping, Essex, England in 1939.
