Robert Montgomery was born on 04 January 1831 and was baptised in Leswalt, Wigtownshire, Scotland on 11 January 1831. His parents were John Montgomery and Elizabeth Montgomery, nee Wallace. He was married to Elizabeth Douglas in St. Quivox, Ayrshire, Scotland on 02 December 1859.
