Arthur Lytton Sells was born in Birmingham, Warwickshire, England on 28 May 1895. His parents were Arthur and Elizabeth Sells, nee Whittaker. His marriage to Iris E. Robertson was registered in Kensington, London, England during the third quarter of 1929. He resided with his wife and his daughter Mary Agnes Sells at Dunster House, The Avenue in Durham, Durham, England in 1939 and he was a Universtiy Professor for French. In 1950 did he reside at the Indiana Union Club in Bloomington, Monroe, Indiana, USA. He was a lodger and worked at the State University as French Professor. He appears on the passenger list of the "Empress of France" and travelled from Montreal, Canada back to Liverpool, Lancashire, England. Departure was on 18 July 1952.
