William Spurs was born in Monkwearmouth, Durham, England on 07 May 1798 and was baptised in Chester Le Street, Durham, England on 29 July 1798. His parents were William and Mary Spurs, nee Nicholson. He was married to Ann Reah in Bishopwearmouth, Durham, England on 09 November 1816. He has been employed in the capacities of App. Mate Master after 44 years in the British Merchant Service in the coasting trade on 30 December 1850. He died in Sunderland, Durham, England on 22 August 1875.
