Pit Accident - Alexander Stewart Pit Accident

An accident which resulted fatally happened at Bonnyton No. 5 pit belonging to Messers Merry & Cunningham, on Monday last.
The deceased was a collier named Alexander STEWART who was engaged in putting wooden props in one of the road ways, when a heavy mass of the roof fell in upon him, instantly crushing him to death. We understand the cause was purely accidental. The deceased has left a widow and large family.

Alexander Kennedy Stewart was born in Maybole, Ayrshire, Scotland, on 26 January 1815. His parents were John and Jane Stewart, nee Smith. He died on 05 December 1859 in Kilmarnock, Ayrshire, Scotland.

Alexander Stewart was married to Helen Parker in Kilmarnock, Ayrshire, Scotland, on 26 October 1831.

Alexander Stewart was married to Agnes Lambie in Kilmarnock, Ayrshire, Scotland, on 27 January 1837.
