Newspaper Report - John Strachan Mine Accident to a New Delaval Footballer

Saturday evening a miner named John Strachan, residing at New Delaval, well-known in local football circles, had the misfortune to get his foot badly bruised, while following his occupation as a coal hewer, in the Forster Pit, yard seam. He was in the act of curving when the coal burst off without any warning, with the result that his foot was severely bruised. He was with great difficulty able to walk home, and was promptly attended to by a medical gentleman. He has acted as corresponding secretary to the New Delaval Villa F. C., during the latter part of the season, and so ably has he fulfilled those duties, that his services will be greatly missed during his compulsory rest.
