John Thomas Spiers was born on 02 September 1876 and was baptised in the Church of St. James the Less in Ashted, Warwickshire, England on 27 September 1876. He was married to Rose Tombs in the Church of St. Nicholas in North and Middle Littleton, Worcestershire, England on 17 April 1911.
A newspaper reported following: LITTLETON SOLDIER'S DEATH Mrs. J. T. Spiers, of Middle Littleton, received news recently that her husband, Pte. J. T. Spiers, of the Royal Warwickshire Regiment, died on August 26th, in the 59th General Hospital, France, from wounds received on July 28th. He was very badly wounded in both legs and left arm, his right leg having to be amputated. Pte. Spiers joined up in February last, and gad been in France about four months. He had served 12 years previous service in the same regiment. He was 41 years of age, and leaves a wife and two children. Pte. Spiers was the eldest of four brothers. His brother James was killed in action on August 26, 1915. Albert has been wounded in the temple and the knee, and has lost his right eye, and George is still in France. |
