To the beloved memory of Louis Chichester, Lieut. of the Royal Navy.
Son of the Revr. J. H. Chichester, Rector of this parish.
He died of the Cape of Good Hope, on his way home from the war in China.
December 8th 1858 at the early age of 24.
This tablet is erected by his affectionate father,
to the memory of one greatly beloved and esteemed,
and in sorrow for his early death.
The grass withereth, the flower fadeth, but the word of our Dod shall stand for ever." |

Louis Chchester was born in Arlington, Devon, England on 05 February 1833 and his mother was Louisa Chichester, nee Blencowe. He was buried in the Seaforth Old Burying Ground and Garden of Remembrance, Simon's Town, Western Cape, South Africa.

N., a Bachelor, deceased, who died 12 December 1858 at the Naval Hospital in Cape Town, were granted at the principal Registry to the Reverend James Hamilton John Chichester of Arlington, aforesaid clerk, the father of the said deceased he having been first sworn. |

Sacred
to the memory of
Major George Chichester,
second son of the late Colonel Chichester,
of Arlington Court,
he died in London July 14, 1876,
aged 79,
and was buried at Kensal Green.
In early life he served in India with the
59th Regiment and was present at the
siege and capture of Bhurtpoor in 1826,
where he was severely wounded.
This monument is erected
by his daughter Agnes
in grateful remembrance of his love and devotion
to her throughout his long life. |

George Chichester was born on 08 June 1797 and was baptised in Arlington, Devon, England on 05 August 1797. His parents were John Palmer Chichester and Agnes Chichester, nee Hamilton. He was married to Maria Warren (1814-1840) in 1835. Two children of the couple are known: Henry Burrow Chichester (1836-1880) and Agnes Chichester (b. 1838). His brother was Rev. James Hamilton John Chichester (see above). |
