Flying Officer J. A. Champness, Sergeant R. B. Lister, Sergeant T. Hanlon, Sergeant C. Stockman, Sergeant N. S. Smith: The crew took off with their plane, a Whitley V, serial number T4170, code GE-T, from the airbase at Linton-on-Ouse to bomb Berlin. They were shot down by Flak. They crashed at Westerwede, Germany. All five airmen were killed.
Some 50 aircraft taking part, although only 50% reported that they reached the target. What has been described as the worst losses to Bomber Command since the start of the war with 10 aircraft falling to return.

A British Air Crew

Lancaster L728 took off from RAF Swinderby at 2320 hours on the night of 25/26th June 1942 detailed to bomb Bremen, Germany. Nothing was heard from the aircraft after take off and it failed to return to base. Captured German documents revealed that the aircraft was shot down at 0200 hours on 26 June 1942 and crashed near Bremen. All crew members were killed.
