On Sept. 3, 1944, at Jordans, Ilminster, Somerset, Col. Walter Hannig Speke, D. L., eldest son of the late Benjamin Speke. Funeral at St. Andrew's Church, Dowlish Wake, on Thursday, Sept. 7, at 2.30.

Walter Hanning Speke was born on 27 September 1870 in Somerset, England. His parents were Benjamin and Caroline Sophia Speke, nee Fuller. He married Lilian Emily May Birch in Kensington on 23 November 1901. He died on 03 September 1944 in Chard, Somerset, England and was interred in the St. Andrew Churchyard, Dowlish Wake, Somerset, England.

89 Boro, L. I. Soldiers are killed in Action.
Washington, Oct. 20 - The War Department made public today the names of 2,818 soldiers killed in action in the European and Mediterranean areas. The following 89 Brooklyn, Queens and Long Island men are included:

Spagna, 1st Sgt., Louis D. - Mrs. Jenny Spagna, mother, 14-17 31st Ave., Long Island City.
Spehler, Pfc., Paul V. - Mrs. Anna Spehler, mother, 129-15 34th Ave., Flushing.
Louis D. Spagna

Louis D. Spagna was born on 12 January 1910 and served with the 8th Tank Battalion, 104th Armored Division and was fallen on 08 August 1944 in France. He was interred in the Long Island National Cemetery, New York on 24 June 1949.
